These Certified Pre-Owned items — including telescopes and accessories — have been thoroughly inspected by the Explore Scientific Quality Control Team to ensure the item meets our high standard. The item is then repacked, often in a new box, and prepared for shipment.

Generally these items come from one of three sources: returned, often in like new condition; traded in on another item; or new but has blemishes and marks.

Certified Pre-Owned items carry the standard Limited One-Year Warranty on mechanical and optical systems; however, because these items are pre-owned, they DO NOT carry a cosmetic warranty.

Description

Hybrid 10-inch Truss-Tube Dobsonian telescope, based on the Explore Scientific Generation II 10-inch truss-tube telescope, was manufactured for Costco and sold in 2020.

These telescopes were returned by customers under Costco’s return policy. All are in new or like-new condition and have been inspected by the Explore Scientific Quality Control team, then repackaged.

These Certified Pro-Owned telescopes come with Explore Scientific’s limited one-year Mechanical and Optical Warranty, but DO NOT have a Cosmetic Warranty.

Comes with an excellent assortment of accessories, including:

* Single-speed focuser

* Three eyepieces: a 26 mm Plossl; a 10 mm Plossl; a 1.3 MP digital eyepiece for viewing and capturing lunar images on a Windows device

* 2x Barlow lens that doubles the magnification of any eyepiece

* Moon filter

* Wil Tirion multi-latitude planisphere for the Northern Hemisphere

* Red-dot finder

* Collimation tool.

We recommend buying the accessory shroud, which will improve contrast at the eyepiece and offer dew protection for the primary mirror. 

This is a hybrid truss-tube Dobsonian because the secondary-mirror is held inside a tube (like a traditional Dobsonian telescope) rather than an open cage.

Nowhere do you get as much light for your money like a good Dobsonian. Disassembly of the scope, which does not require tools, ensures a trouble-free transport of this great scope — even in small cars. The entire structure has been optimized for maximum stiffness with minimal weight. The combination of high altitude bearings with optimized aluminum structures allows fine-adjustment flow at high magnifications.

This is an ideal workhorse for the deep-sky observers. A 254mm mirror collects hundreds of times as much light as the naked eye. Details on planets and deep-sky objects will be visible even for inexperienced observers. Bright star clusters are resolved to the core, and the sight of the terminator on the moon is an unforgettable experience.

The significant differences between this telescope and the Explore Scientific Generation II model are:

* White aluminum-tube secondary rather than a cage assembly

* Single-speed focuser rather than a 2-speed focuser (upgrade requires a new focuser; not just a 10:1 reduction knob)

* No cooling fans
